What Would You Do With an Unexpected Refund?
A local chamber of commerce says it is holding refunds for consumers until they fill out a form, so the Reporter asked five people what they would do with money they had not expected to get back.
“I’d put it in the coffee can with the other unexpected money. It has been eleven dollars since 1991, and I don’t want to rush it.”
Yvonne Askew, 64 Retired school bus driver “I’d buy a pizza for everyone who has ever told me a refund was coming. It would be a small group, and they would all be pizza people.”
Marcus Teague, 31 Line cook “I’d keep the receipt, the envelope, and the form, and then I’d call the number on the form. I have a rule that no money is real until somebody has explained it to me twice.”
Ellen Dorsey, 47 Dental hygienist “Nothing. If it’s a refund, it’s for somebody else’s money, and I was raised not to spend a stranger’s money on a Tuesday.”
Harold Penn, 72 Retired hardware store manager “I’d buy a new leash for the dog and then find out the refund was actually for the leash. That’s how most of my money works.”
