Should the Moon Have a Flag, and Who Is It For?
On the 57th anniversary of the first moon landing, the Reporter asked residents whether the moon should have a flag, and whom the flag is meant for.
“Of course it should. Otherwise how is the moon supposed to know whose moon it is?”
Gail Hennessey, 66 Retired flight attendant “It’s for the stars. They’re far away, but they can see, and we want them to know who got there first.”
Brandon Sykes, 24 Warehouse associate “I’d want to know who’s ironing it. I pressed flags for 50 years, and nobody is going up there with an iron.”
Ruth Lindqvist, 81 Retired seamstress “The moon is already a sign. You don’t hang a sign on a sign. That’s my professional opinion, and I’ll stand by it at any height.”
Curtis Mabry, 49 Sign installer “We left one up there in 1969. I assume the moon has been holding it for us, and I’d like a receipt.”
