Should a Movie Be Allowed to Lose $250 Million?
A film projected to lose a quarter billion dollars has prompted a question the Reporter put to residents of a two-screen town.
“I have never once lost $250 million on anything, and I went to the movie anyway, so I think the movie should be allowed to try.”
Brenda Coulter, 54 Dental office manager “Only if the movie is also allowed to explain itself. I saw the trailer twice and I still don’t know what the second half was about.”
Marcus Pell, 31 Freight dispatcher “When my husband lost four hundred dollars on the county fair pie contest we did not put it in a movie. We put it in the freezer, and it was still good in March.”
Gloria Ainsley, 67 Retired “Anything that loses money has to be somebody’s fault. I have not decided whose yet, so I’m going to see it again.”
Darnell Fitch, 42 Insurance adjuster “A movie is a lot like a lawnmower. It costs a lot to make, it doesn’t start the first time, and you should not be asked to pay for the one you didn’t buy.”
Hank Oberlin, 58 Small-engine repair
