The Continental Reporter is committed to accuracy. When we make an error, we correct it promptly, and in several cases more than once.
Corrections and clarifications are prepared by the Standards Desk under the direction of Evelyn Strand, standards editor. To report an error, see Contact.

A Nation article published Thursday, “$110 Billion Studio Merger Closes; Combined Company’s First Act Is Merging Every Movie Into One Movie,” gave the film’s runtime as 11,400 hours. At the time of publication the runtime was 11,400 hours; it has since grown, and the Reporter regrets implying that the figure would hold still. The article also stated that the penguins appear in all of it. The penguins appear in all of it and, according to the Center for Measured Outcomes, have begun appearing in films not owned by the studio.

A Nation article published Thursday, “Nation’s Flag Shirts Now Outnumber Nation’s Flags, Continental Census Bureau Confirms,” gave the national count of flag shirts as 40 million. The correct figure is 40 million and one. The additional shirt was located after publication in a dresser drawer in Pell Junction, Mo., by its owner, who reported it to the Reporter by letter. The Continental Census Bureau has confirmed the shirt and advises that the drawer is still being checked.

An article published Monday, “Local Man Who Does His Own Research Completes Research, Is Furious With Result,” originally misstated the year of the County Road J resurfacing as “this year.” It was 2019. At the time of the resurfacing, 2019 was this year, which the Standards Desk has determined is how the error occurred. The Reporter regrets the clarity.

An article published Tuesday, “Area Dad Declares Thermostat ‘Not a Democracy,’ Loses Vote 4-1,” reported the household vote as 4-1. The vote was 4-1 with one abstention, by the family dog, who was present and, according to the minutes, “clearly following.” The dog has since asked that its abstention be recorded as a no, making the final tally 4-2 by a method the household constitution does not address. The Reporter regrets the error and any role it may have played in the dog’s radicalization.

A photo caption published Sept. 29 misidentified a Tuesday as a Wednesday. The Tuesday has been notified. The Wednesday has asked not to be contacted further, and the Reporter will respect that request through at least next Wednesday, which has also been notified.

An article published Oct. 2 referred to the bench outside the East Varnum Public Library as “a bench.” Pending the outcome of borough council deliberations, the Reporter will refer to it as “the seating matter.” The Reporter also regrets an earlier reference to the council’s chairs as “chairs,” which the council has not yet established, and the use of the word “established,” which one council member has said is “a little leading.”

An article published Monday, “Fans Who Joined Honey Deuce Line on Opening Day of US Open Reach Front After Men’s Final,” described the line as having advanced roughly 300 yards. The line advanced roughly 300 yards and then, according to people in it, roughly 40 yards back, during a period one fan described as “a misunderstanding about the melon balls.” The net figure is 260 yards. The Reporter regrets the error and the melon balls.

An article published Tuesday, “Spider-Man Opening Weekend Revised Upward From $355 Million to $360 Million, and From Three Days to Four,” stated that the weekend had been extended into Monday. As of Thursday, the weekend has also been extended into Tuesday and part of Wednesday. The Reporter apologizes to readers who returned to work Monday on the assumption that the weekend was over. It was not over. It may still not be over.

An article published Tuesday on the nation’s 250th anniversary misspelled “semiquincentennial” in its second paragraph. The Reporter has corrected the spelling. A subsequent attempt by the Standards Desk to say the corrected word aloud is ongoing.

An article published Tuesday, “Federal Panel Votes 5-4 to Rename Tuesday After Concerns It Sounds Foreign,” was published on a Tuesday. The Reporter regrets the timing. The Calendar Heritage Review Panel has asked that the article be considered to have appeared on “the day after Monday,” pending review.
